The enduring impact of the gospel of Jesus Christ is uncontested among its proponents; however, the scope of its message remains a subject of ongoing debate. Christendom is divided between those who advocate that the gospel should primarily emphasize personal righteousness on Earth as preparation for eternity and those who contend that it should also advocate for the liberation of people, thereby freeing the oppressed from social injustice. Over the past few decades, this debate has gained momentum and has recently become a source of theological contention. What is the truth of the debate over whether social-liberative preaching constitutes an essential element of the Gospel of Jesus Christ? The debate and answer to that question is the purpose of this class. A brief bilateral approach will be presented from both perspectives.
